Location: Tanzania, at the firm site
Salary: 1400 - 1500 USD + Local cash of 400,000 TZS per month

Their main focus is to help small and marginal farmers to realize a steady income through their different models.
Job Purpose: The
Senior Horticulturalist will focus on the technical side as well the
managerial side of the farm management while planning and executing
management of farm activities.
Key Objectives:
Commercial organic fruit
and vegetable crops or spices farming (crops like chili, ginger etc)
conforming to US NOP / EU / JAS / Demeter standards or fair trade (or
fair-for-life) standards
OR
Commercial conventional
farming for fruit and vegetable crops or spices conforming to Global GAP
system (controlled agriculture) in open fields or green house
cultivation
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Train farmers to grow profitable crops in greenhouses
- Gather data necessary to monitor project
- Provide regular progress reports to Management Committee
- Arrange for the procurement of materials needed by the project
- Assist with the marketing of the crops
- Handling and Maintaining of irrigation systems
- Be responsible for the application of alternate origin fertilizers
- Be responsible for the implementation of the Internal Control Systems
Qualifications & Skill sets required
- A degree in horticulture from a recognized university
- Must have at least 5 years of experience in the same position
- Good hands on experience in fruit and vegetable farming – pest scouting / disease identification / remedial measures
- Compilation of Package of Practices and Cost of Cultivation
- Experience in protected agriculture – green house or tunnel house
- Experience in handling and maintenance of irrigation systems - preferably large systems > 100 acres
- Good exposure in organic farming, should have implemented ICS ( internal control system ) and lead successful certification for at least 2 to 3 years as per US NOP / EU / JAS / Demeter standards
- If not into organic farming, then Global GAP experience is a must, should have implemented on a large scale farm leading to successful certification
- Knowledge in selection and application of alternate origin fertilizers – microbial fertilizers, natural enzymes, bio-dynamic fertilizers, processing green compost / vermicompost
