In order to build staff  and partner capacity  to realise the goal of improved care and protection for children without appropriate  care (CWAC), Save the Children in Somali/Somaliland  in partnership with the regional  and Multi-Country  Programme Unit [RMCPU] based at the Save the Children East Africa Regional  Office - [SC EARO], will support a training for the Country Office staff and partners.

This particular training is scheduled to take place from 1st -4th June 2015 in Borama, Somaliland; as such Save the Children  International is inviting  applications  for a Consultant  to undertake  this training.

Interested Candidates MUST have the below competencies:- 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, Development Studies, International Relations, Public Administration or any development related field;
  • Good understanding of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the African Charter  on the Rights and the Welfare of the Child;
  • Demonstrated Knowledge and expertise in the child rights and child protection; knowledge  and experience on the international policy and practice of  Alternative Care  of Children is Key;
  • Previous experience working in Somali/Somaliland and knowledge on Kafalah is an advantage;
  • Demonstrate experience in conducting capacity  building trainings, research and/or engagement of various stakeholders on Alternative Care of Children;
  • Excellent writing, Communication and analytical Skills;
  • Demonstrate high level of professionalism  and an ability to work independently  with tight deadlines.

Program Description: TechnoServe has entered into a partnership with  Nestle Nespresso SA to introduce the Nespresso AAA  Sustainable QualityTM program in Ethiopia, Kenya and  South Sudan.

The overarching goal is to reduce poverty for the  beneficially small holder coffee farmers through increased coffee incomes as a result of improved yields  and quality.

Primary Purpose: The Business advisor  - Sustainability shall provide  technical  support  in the implementation of strategies that  will enable smallholder  coffee grower cooperatives/wet mills  signed up  to the program  to improve  quality and sustainability.

Duties and Responsibilities

(1) Provide technical support to the beneficiary clients so as  to sustainably improve their wet mills operations and coffee quality, to be achieved through:
  • Creating awareness to cooperatives leaders, staff and farmers of the AAA standards for  sustainable  coffee production.
  • Delivering a standard set of sustainability and quality trainings to cooperatives  leaders and staff.
  • Carrying out regular  sustainability standards audits at wet  mills and  using these  to assist cooperatives leaders  and staff to understand  areas of non-compliance.
  • Supporting the cooperatives to implement actions and measures to achieve compliance with sustainability standards.

(2) Support relevant monitoring and evaluation activities such as collecting and collating of various data streams such as the cherry harvest progression, wet mills revenues and expenses; market and price information; updating of audit score cards.
(3) Support the development, adaptation and review of various  technical materials such as lesson plans, audit questionnaires,  data collection tools, fact sheets and  program progress reports.
(4) Support the program's continuous interaction with relevant stakeholders such as local (county) government officers and coffee service providers (marketing agents, millers, input suppliers)
(5) Any other duties assigned by the program manager

Requirements
1. Bachelors Degree in any of the following fields;  agriculture, environmental or natural sciences, or business  management. Training and qualifications in the area of quality/certification  standards will be a definite advantage.
2. At least 5 years' professional work experience in the private/not for profit sector, three (3) of which working in the coffees sector with demonstrated experience in the following areas:
  • Developing training materials for use in training farmers/producers on quality/certification standards
  • Conducting producer audits at business and farm level according to standards applicable to  smallholder growers.
  • Designing and implementing  solutions for  producers to achieve compliance  with applicable  quality/sustainability standards.
3. Well developed computer skills in Excel, Word and  Powerpoint, with demonstrated  experience in analysis and modelling.
4. Strong planning skills and experience working to deliver quality work outputs within strict time lines.
5. Strong Interpersonal and Cross-cultural skills
6. Strong Written and communication skills in English and Kiswahili.Knowledge of local Kenyan Languages  is an added advantage.
7. Willingness to spend time working and travelling in project sites located in rural areas.
8. Possess a valid Kenyan driving license

Job Title: Deputy Program Coordinator - Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) Program

Impact Research and Development Organisation is a registered Kenya Non- Governmental Organisation with head office in Kisumu  and regional offices in Kisumu, Homabay,  Migori, Busia, West Pokot, Siaya and Turkana  counties of Kenya.

Its principle mandate is to design, implement and evaluate  HIV/AIDS research interventions  and programs that improve the health status of individuals  and local communities.

We are looking for qualified and experienced deputy program coordinator  to support our VMMC Program.

Job Summary:  Deputise the program coordinator in overseeing the provision of  VMMC services.

Specifically, he/she will take lead and participate in the design, implementation  and monitoring of VMMC activities in selected sub-counties within Busia, West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, and Turkana counties of Kenya.

Duty Location: Eldoret with Frequent visit to implementation sites

Reporting to: The program coordinator

Minimum Requirements: 

At least an ordinary Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Medicine and Surgery, or Nursing
Registered with relevant professional body in Kenya
Minimum of 3 years experience coordinating public health programs preferably HIV/AIDS prevention programs; experience in the roll-out program of VMMC added advantage;
Training and practical experience in providing VMMC  services added advantage
Good Written and verbal communication skills
proficiency in Microsoft  Office Packages required
